Joy Wilborn was a committed and vibrant company dancer at Studio of MoveMINT. In December of 2019, Joy passed away in a tragic accident and leapt into the arms of Jesus. She left behind family, friends, a community, and a dance studio who loved her deeply.
She was such a lighthouse and gem of a human being, packed with so much heart and so much fire. After Joy's passing, the Fort Worth community came together to support the Wilborn-Mayo family, raising money to support Joy's passions, her impact, and her legacy.
The Dancing for Joy Scholarship is an entire year of dance given to a dancer who embodies everything that we loved about Joy. We will honor her doing something she loved to do– and we hope to help our students feel close to her through MoveMINT, self-expression, and by spreading joy.
"Receiving the Dancing For Joy scholarship has been a transformative experience and a huge blessing for me. It represents not just financial support, but a community of people who believe in my potential and are invested in my growth as a dancer. This scholarship has allowed me to immerse myself fully in my dance training and I thank everyone who has made this possible for me.
With the encouragement and resources provided by my studio and teachers, I have been able to exceed my limits, growing into who I am as both a dancer and as a person. Each class has become a stepping stone in my journey, helping me build confidence and refine my skills. The constant support from my dance community has fueled my passion and dedication, making me more determined to excel, while also always reminding me why I love dance.
This award has meant the world to me, as it has indicated the hard work and generosity of those around me. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to evolve in my dancing and to be part of such an inspiring environment. I look forward to continuing my journey with Studio of MoveMINT, knowing that I have a supportive network cheering me on every step of the way."
