Born in Kilgore, Texas, Lexi Bennett began taking ballet classes at age 6 with Longview Ballet Theatre under the direction of Pat George Mitchell in Longview, Texas. She loved all styles of dance, but her focus was classical ballet. At age 9, Lexi began attending Summer Intensives including The School of American Ballet, American Ballet Theatre in New York, Boston Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Miami City Ballet, Tulsa Ballet, Jacob’s Pillow Ballet School, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and BalletX. In high school, Lexi was a Kilgore High School Hi-Stepper and served as captain for two consecutive years.
After graduating in 2011, she continued her studies in classical ballet and contemporary dance at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) under Dean Susan Jaffe. She graduated in May 2015 with a BFA in Dance with a concentration in Ballet. At UNCSA, Lexi performed in works by choreographers such as George Balanchine, Twyla Tharp, Susan Jaffe, Emery LeCrone, William Forsythe and Ethan Stiefel.
After graduation, she was offered a second company contract with Charlotte Ballet under the direction of Jean-Pierre Bonneboux, and was then promoted to first company the following season. Lexi danced professionally with Charlotte Ballet until 2018. During her professional career, she performed in various classical and contemporary works such as Ohad Naharin’s Minus 16, George Balanchine’s Rubies, Bryan Arias’ When Breath Becomes Air, Filipe Portugal’s Stepping Over, Robin Mineko Williams’ To Clear, Javier De Frutos’ Elsa Canasta, Dwight Rhoden’s world premiere of Bop Doo Wah, The Groove and Ballad Unto, Mark Diamond’s Bolero and The Little Mermaid, Sasha Janes’ The Weight of Darkness and Wuthering Heights, Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux’s Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker. Lexi is also certified in yoga, yoga sculpt, Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT), and Alixa Flexibility.
After retiring from the stage in 2018, Lexi moved back to Texas and began her teaching journey. She loves teaching all ages and is ecstatic to begin her third year at Studio of MoveMINT. She currently lives in Fort Worth with her husband, Wade, and two kids, Beau and Blake.
